Take Me Out to the Ballgame

In baseball, there is a line in "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" that goes:
"It's 1,2,3 strikes yer and of the old baaaallgaaaame. Well friends, keep that in mind as you read on.

My picks were as follows:
Knicks -1 at Bobcats
Wisconsin +2 aT Indiana
Mavs -7.5 at Grizzlies

Here was my rational. The Bobcats beat the Knicks a couple weeks ago and I

expected the Knicks to return the favor in the rematch. Wisconsin had the longest winning streak in the nation at 17 games and quite frankly, I don't think Indiana is good. And the Mavs are one of the top team in the NBA and I didn't think the Grizzlies matched up well at all.

Gerald Wallace was a step quicker -- and about a foot higher -- than everyone else and he scored 17 of his career-high 42 points in the fourth quarter, including four big highlight dunks as the Bobcats pulled away from a no-show Knicks team in a 104-87 victory. The Knicks looked sluggish from the start and shot miserably all game long. Wallace hit a 3-pointer, a free

throw and had a thunderous jam in an 8-0 run that put Charlotte ahead 97-82 with 2:44 left. He made 14 of 22 shots and 11 of 17 free throws, besting his

previous career-best night by a point. Jamal Crawford led the Knicks with 28

points and David Lee had yet another double-double. Why he is not in the starting lineup is beyond me. So that was strike 1.

Next up was #2 Wisconsin visiting #25 Indiana in a classic Big Ten matchup.

Wisconsin came into the game riding a 17 game winning streak and I expected them to keep it going. This was truly a great game to watch as both teams really wanted to win badly. It was a close game but Wisconsin's final lead was at 40-37 on two free throws by Alondo Tucker. But player of the game, AJ

Ratliff's first 3-pointer started an 11-0 run that put the Hoosiers ahead for good.

Thus, strike 2...

Last shot for me was the Mavericks at the Grizzlies. Unfortunately, it wasn't the laugher I had hoped for as it was tightly contested all game long. Down the stretch, the Dallas Mavericks showed why they are the NBA's best team, even if all they had to do was hold off the league's worst.

Dirk Nowitzki overcame a tough shooting night with 26 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Mavericks to a 95-94 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night.

Nowitzki shot 8 of 20 from the field but hit all 10 of his free throws, including eight in the fourth period to hold off the Grizzlies, who lost for

the third time in the last four games. Mike Miller led the Grizzlies with 32

points, including 20 in the fourth quarter. His 30-footer with five seconds left got Memphis within 93-91, but a pair of free throws by Nowitzki put Dallas up 95-91. The Mavericks missed only one of their 25 free throws and its a good thing as they won by 1 point, 95-94. That was strike 3,capping off a terrible night.

So it definitely was a bad night for me. Hopefully tonight I can make a comeback.

Till next time, may all your bets be winners.
